Of all the things I've ever been called, "smokey" goes down as my all time favorite compliment.
I'm very good at it, but generally don't prefer small talk. On a first date I'd much rather have a discussion about an idea I hadn't considered, memorable meals, places we've traveled - things that have been seen and learned...
I love love love exploring and discovering new things, food, places, cultures, people, experiences, think that about covers everything. I find life fun and interesting most of the time. I love to travel, need to do more. I love to dance, I love roller coasters, I love thunderstorms, I love to walk in the rain. I love the beach, I love the fact that I get to smell the ocean from my apartment. I love the mountains. I love and miss walking in Redwood forests, there's something special about them. I love fireworks. I love the sound of breaking glass.I love the smell of skunk (as long as it's not on my dog.) I love early mornings when the light is that kind of bright you only see in the wee hours of the am. When everything appears clean and the day smells all shiny and new. I love twilight - indigo sky, the landscape outlined in black. I love 'small world' moments when you are reminded this truly is a tiny planet.
I could not exist if it weren't for the love of my friends and family.
To say I love my dog would be an understatement - half black lab, half golden - she's the bomb and an excellent judge of character.
I dislike negativity and won't dwell on my dislikes, but will mention a couple that are deal breakers; I have no tolerance for racism or bigotry. I have little patience for close minded people or glass half-empty types. Of all the lessons I've learned so far, that life is very short is a daily thought and I try to live accordingly.
I love skiing, water & snow - in the winter I live for skiing. I've found there is nothing in the world like strapping two sticks onto your feet, hurling yourself down a mountain - gorgeous views all around, cold wind kissing your face, a favorite song in your head, moving in rhythm - absolute Heaven!
I go see a lot of live music - there's something about music especially live, that's food for the soul. I love it when I know I am listening to great music by the goosebumps it gives me.
I'm a Red Sox fan, love going to games when I can.
I'm attracted to alternative thinkers and people with a strong sense of self. A solid backbone is a must. I think people that say they are bored are often boring. Normal is boring.
Of all the important things my parents taught me ... some of the more notable..from my mother - the appreciation of art, the love of plants, and that, "if it's a job worth doing, it's a job worth doing well," and I'm proud of my work ethic. From my dad, how to use kitchen knives, how to shoot a gun (tho I don't - but it's good to know how) and that it's helpful to pre-warm your thermos or coffee mug. From each of them, a healthy sense of humor.
I sort of grew up on both coasts, lived in many different places, I'm glad I've seen a fair amount of this country, still not nearly enough of it though. I've been to Europe twice and loved it so much it's almost palpable how much I want to see the rest of the world.
