For the past years, I've always been focusing on what's at hand. First it was school, then work, then school again, then work again.

Work has stopped being enough and I've started to wonder what I've missed all these years.

Everybody has their own issues and I know that I have them too. But I'm not afraid of self examination; a couple of years ago I looked at my life and realized that I always played it safe -- and I was miserable. I started taking chances: I bought a motorcycle, I started trying new things and taking new chances and trying to meet new people.

The things I value: honesty, intelligence, trustworthiness, humor, directness, and logic.

I'm trying to change my life right now - I'm tired of being alone. To that end I'm trying to work out more, trying to get out more, trying to try new things, but it's difficult sometimes to motivate.

After a couple of degrees in different fields, I've finally found an industry and a job that I really enjoy.

I'm really good at thinking, planning and listening.

For some reason, I've become the sort of central organizer of our local group. I have just about everybody's phone numbers because I tend to hold on to data and to organize it.

What else am I good at. Snappy comebacks, although there's usually a 15 minute delay. So maybe not so 'snappy', as just comebacks.

While I seem quiet and conservative, I tend to say really insane shit every once and a while.

The first books that I loved were The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy by Douglas Adams. It fed into my interests in Science Fiction, satire and humor. Monty Python (I can probably quote the entire Holy Grail film), Firesign Theatre and The Onion probably describe my humor to a t.

It seems that all of my favorite shows get canceled before their time: Mystery Science Theater 3000, Firefly, Farscape, Futurama. Shows don't last forever, but jeez, make something intelligent and challenging, and the masses walk away. Anyway, I spend most of my time watching History Channel, Discovery, PBS; lots of documentaries and science shows. Add pro and college sports to that list, along with the occasional cartoon and regular Adult Swim shows.

Since I'm from Cincinnati, I guess I'm supposed to like chili, but I don't. I worked for a few weeks at Price Hill Chili, so I know how it's made - thus I don't eat it. I'd much rather go to LaRosa's than anyplace else.

I guess I still listen to the music of my youth - a lot of New Wave bands along with stuff from the 80's.

I hate these sort of hypothetical questions, but I'll give it a try.

Thing #1: Internet/television/newspapers/magazines.
- I classify these all as one thing because I am referring to them as information sources. I like to know new things, I like data for data's sake, so not being able to find news and events would be a major change.

Thing #2: Car/motorcycle.
- I'm not talking about rudimentary transport; I commuted with buses before and they work for what you pay. I am speaking about the act of driving or riding. Often when I'm bored, depressed or agitated, I'll hop in the car or go out on the bike. I don't really go anywhere, it's just the act of traveling that I enjoy so much. It's one of the few times I feel like I'm actually in control.

Thing #3: My music collection.
- I have about 27,000 songs/audio files; I've listened to every one of them at least once. My music reminds me of the past, sets a certain mood, or expresses things with such better eloquence than I ever can. And with a collection this big, I can almost always find something that encapsulates where I am at that moment.

Thing #4: Family and Friends
- I had to do some thinking about this one, as it feels like such a generic answer, but after some examination, I think this is true. Back in 2001 I had a chance for a work transfer to El Paso, TX. It would have meant more pay, responsibility and advancement. But as I thought about it, the realization dawned on me that not only did I not want to be that far from friends and family, but that I could not even survive without them. So that gets Friends and Family on this list.

Thing #5: Murphy
- For Christmas, I was given a kitten. Normally I don't advocate giving animals as gifts, but rather than being given the kitten, I was given a gift certificate for the SPCA to adopt a kitten. When little Murphy isn't around, I wonder where she's at. This isn't my first cat, but it's been a long time since I lost my last one.

I spend a lot of time thinking about pretty random stuff.

I've spent hours conducting an internal debate about the existence of free will. (In the end I couldn't make a conclusion since the arguments on both sides were pretty depressing).

Whenever the lottery gets above a certain point, the checklist of 'what I would buy if I won a lot of money' starts. As you might expect, I haven't needed to implement this checklist.

I once spent an evening considering how you could explain Heisenberg's Uncertainty Theorem to someone without a basic understanding of particle physics.

And I assume everybody else also goes through the "what if I was born some place/some time different"? question.

Sadly, on a typical Friday night, I'm at home, on the internet.

I've invest too much time and effort in this thing.
