I'm kind of a big deal, while still being kind of a big nerd. On any given week you'll likely find me splitting my time between working full time as an engineer, part-time grad school, or trying to keep up with my hobbies. In my spare time I love to read, make home improvements to my new house, or play board games with my friends (not so much Monopoly as conquer the world via train lines or send your robot through a maze shooting other robots type games). One of the things I enjoy most, however, is traveling. At least once every other year I try to take a trip to a different country. Most recently I've been to Japan and Tanzania.

Fun facts about me: I've participated in a lot of hobbies including: caving (or spelunking as some of you may know it), aikido, jazz bands, horseback riding, old school roller skating, playing organ, motorcycles, bowling, to name a few. I consider myself a dabbler and still like to do quite a few of these.

I'm native to the DC area and recently bought a house in Virginia where I live with my two adorable kittens. Even though I'm no stranger to these surroundings, I love finding new stuff to do all the time, whether it's leveraging my season subscription to the National Symphony Orchestra, going to the Washington Opera, catching a show at the 9:30 club, or just enjoying everything else the area has to offer including but not limited to: the Birchmere, musicals, fireworks, parades, the folk life festival, etc.

Going to grad school part time for my Masters in Systems Engineering while working full time as an systems engineer. The Masters will be done in four months!

Looking for opportunities to see the world, one country at a time. Last year I went to Japan, so I'm making progress.

Learning how to be handy around my house. After all, how much do you really know about yourself if you've never installed your own toilet or replaced your bathroom ceiling? Let's just hope I don't electrocute myself.

Making witty/sarcastic remarks, baking, playing piano, cooking, smiling, traveling, academics, reading books, procrastinating, hanging around, being alone, being with people, and just generally being happy.

The color of my hair, which is currently a brown red. It might change though - generally to a different shade of red.

Then my height. I've heard almost every short joke there is - 10 points if you know one I haven't heard yet.

I love almost any well written book. A few personal favorites, however, are the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, classic Heinlein, anything by Bill Bryson, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, Kurt Vonnegut (Jr.), Ian M Banks, David Foster Wallace and Studio Foglio. Okay, that was actually authors, not books, but I tried. I'm a big believer in a house full of books.

I like indie films as well as regular films, but my favorites are Nightmare before Christmas, the Great Escape, the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Sliding Doors, Miyazaki films, Amelie, and Run Lola Run.

People seem to be putting tv stuff as well here. I don't have cable - on purpose - and try to only watch good shows. Currently, I'm watching Coupling and the new Dr. Who.

I listen to almost any type of music including rock, pop, classical, celtic, jazz, and pirate drinking songs. My favorite musicians include Chopin, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Matt Costa, Jukebox the Ghost, Queen, and Ella Fitzgerald.

Favorite food? I like almost anything that is well made. Good sushi and French are on the top of my list, along with Brazilian and Greek. I've tried guinea pig, camel, crocodile, kangaroo, emu, alpaca, snails, and frog legs. All but the guinea pig were pretty good.

Should I give an inane answer about physical properties such as space/time or a saccharine answer about my friends, family and pets? Or should this be a list of desert island items?

Fine, let's assume all of that is given since they're so boring to restate.

So six (other) things that I like: books, music, homemade pies, other homemade baked goods, adventures, and funny stories.

Currently, homework and how to fix my house on a budget. Or where I can stash more books in my house until I bother to get more bookcases. Or a new cake recipe and how freaking hard it is to get coconut meat out of fresh coconuts but how it makes the cake just so much better.

Or how to start creating a posse of minions. Turns out goons and henchmen are hard to come by this season.

Either at grad school, doing work or going out with my grad school buddies, or in town, chilling at home with friends or out at a new restaurant or catching a show. Or maybe just at home reading a book and listening to music.

I enjoy dinner parties, cosmic bowling, rock shows, opera, chilling with a movie, or checking out a new restaurant. I like variety.

I like to sing in the car when I'm driving. Sometimes I forget and sing in the car when others are around.

Sometimes I listen to country music. Not often. But even without hearing the song before, I can probably sing along - country is really predictable.

I love happy-cola gummies. I cannot explain why.

You feel like it? You want to potentially become friends and more, if you have any interest to share, you have a good story or a short joke I haven't heard, if you happen to be clairvoyant and can preview next years Dr Who for me to let me know if Matt Smith, the new doctor, will be again good.

You're willing to wait and be patient - I'm often doing schoolwork and am out of town every other weekend for school so I don't have a lot of free time. I believe in meeting people to see if there's any connection after some messaging, but I have to have the free time do so.

I'm generally looking for people who are geographically compatible so that if we randomly decide to, we could pack and go check out the latest show/concert/traveling midget circus in less than 10 minutes. So if you're close or you've got a transporter, let's go see that circus!
