OkCupid: ¡Ahora, en Inglés!
I love a long one-on-one conversation. Otherwise, my idea of a good
time is a small group of people, maybe a bottle of wine or a
pitcher of sangria or Pimm's cocktail, and a movie, board game, or
impromptu discussion of anything, really.
El verano pasado estaba en un pueblito en
Sinaloa,
México cómo maestra de inglés. My
deeply mixed feelings about it were not only because I ran out of
books halfway through, but that didn't help.
Je vais passer cet hiver à
Paris comme étudiante.
In the Personality Award section OKCupid has, for some unholy
reason, labeled me as "More Republican." This is NOT TRUE. Just had
to get that out of the way.

I'm studying English lit with a concentration in gender and
sexuality and Modern Languages, specifically French and Spanish. I
want to learn German and Italian next. It has been said that I try
to acquire languages the way billionaires acquire cars.
I want to be Susan Sontag when I grow up:
"Sontag drew fire for writing that 'Mozart, Pascal, Boolean
algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches,
Newton, the emancipation of women, Kant, Balanchine ballets, et al.
don't redeem what this particular civilization has wrought upon the
world. The white race is the cancer of human history.' Sontag later
offered an ironic apology for the remark, saying it was insensitive
to cancer victims."

How could you not?

Making jokes.
Falling in love with a text to the point of talking to friends
about it and possibly tearing up a little during a class discussion
of it. Shut up.
Sticking up for myself and other people, mostly. I'm still working
on it.
Remembering exact lines from the film American Psycho.
Being a writing tutor.
Snuggling cats and cooing over dogs.

Also, Britney Spears is the Joan Crawford of our time. In the sense
of "oh my god this is amazing is that another wig?" Don't fight
it.
I'm much more serious about books and movies, though. I have
occasionally been accused of having bad taste in music, and I
cheerfully assent.
Food:
I'm generally in favor of it. I'm trying to learn how to make those
incredible salads that make your heart sing with the joyful union
of every flavor type.

Books.
Kisses.
Long stimulating conversations.
Pop culture. I hate and love it in practically equal measure.
Regular alone time (not [necessarily] a euphemism).
That sixth thing that is completely indispensable and I'm just
withholding it, I'm definitely not just having trouble thinking of
it or anything.

Gender and
sexuality.
Cultural history. Literature. Languages. Comedy. Theater. Moving
the Overton window. Feminism and antiracism. All the things I don't
know yet. Lolcats. Mono no aware. Books. Happiness.
And lately,
Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, which involves at least four of the above.

deliciously long, aimless conversation sitting in the hallway or
home to read and sleep.

-You don't fetishize bi women or women in open relationships.
That's pretty scuzzy.
-I seem like the kind of person you'd want to talk to over a
coffee.
